Stanford University hosts thousands of events across campus each year. To support the sustainability of these events and recognize the sustainability leadership of campus event planners, the Office of Sustainability launched the Cardinal Green Event program in fall 2015.

During the program’s inaugural year, it supported 30 campus events organized by 20 different departments or groups. Event planners reported the outcomes of their events to receive recognition for their efforts, and the following groups received top participation scores: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., Bechtel International Center, BeWell @ Stanford, Cardinal @ Work, the Earth Systems Program, the O’Donohue Family Stanford Educational Farm, the Office of Religious Life, Residential & Dining Enterprises, the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences, Students for a Sustainable Stanford, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and the Women’s Community Center.

The Cardinal Green Event program offers in-person consultation and online resources to help student and staff planners reduce waste, conserve resources, and set an example across campus at events of all sizes. By prioritizing cost-neutral sustainability improvements, the program is designed to be accessible to all campus groups.
