Stanford hosted the 2016 Clean Energy for Education Symposium, sponsored by SunPower, to showcase innovative energy management and sustainability strategies for K-14 schools and higher education institutions. The symposium, titled Empowering Sustainable Schools with Clean Energy, included top policy makers in California, educators, and financial experts who focused on maximizing resource allocation while saving energy and money and enhancing education. Fahmida Ahmed, director of Stanford’s Office of Sustainability, presented on the Stanford Energy System Innovations project, with a focus on the integration of renewables into Stanford’s electricity portfolio through the university’s partnership with SunPower. In a keynote address, Salman Khan, founder of Khan Academy, discussed the need to empower learners to study at their own pace, both inside and outside of the classroom. Attendees also toured Stanford’s new Central Energy Facility.
