The Office of Sustainability released a white paper discussing the results of its campus-wide plug load equipment inventory. The inventory, which documented 110,000+ pieces of equipment in 220 buildings on campus, determined that plug loads consume nearly 50 million kWh per year, 32% of the electricity consumption of the buildings surveyed. Since the study was first conducted in 2014 and expanded upon in 2015, its data have helped the university develop new and refine existing targeted conservation programs for the campus community. These have included a Cardinal Green Labs program, additional resource opportunities through the Cardinal Green Buildings program, and further refinement of the Sustainable Information Technology program. The white paper presents a detailed compilation of the process and data and has been widely read at peer institutions and discussed at conferences and webinars.
