Two Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) Student Housing student interns, Kelsey Lange and Lindsey Jin, completed a water audit of plumbing fixtures in all 33 Row Houses to identify water-saving opportunities. The Row Houses accommodate around 1,600 undergraduate students annually and are largely run by student staff. Through the audit, Lange and Jin found 120 fixtures that do not meet Student Housing’s low-flow standards; changing them out would save 1 million gallons of water annually. Additionally, the audit process allowed the interns to engage with residents to discuss the project and ways that students can maximize water conservation efforts in their homes. R&DE will begin fixture replacements in the fall of 2015.
