Stanford lecturer J. Christian Jensen, MFA ’13, received an Oscar nomination in the documentary short category for his film White Earth. The film served as Jensen’s Documentary Film Program thesis. White Earth documents the recent migration of laborers to America’s northern plains in search of work in oil fields. The story, told from the perspective of three children and an immigrant mother, explores themes of innocence, home, and the American dream.

In addition to the Academy Award nomination, White Earth earned awards for best cinematography, best short film, and best documentary short from organizations throughout the United States.
