To fulfill its mission of creating visible and tangible experiences of sustainability at Stanford, Office of Sustainability launched a new interactive portal through which the campus community can engage with its programs, resources, and data, while also learning about the university’s latest initiatives and innovations.

An innovative feature of the new site allows users to view real-time data on resource consumption in buildings. Through an interactive campus map, users can see utility data from more than 100 buildings on campus, compare the performance of different buildings over time, and display the results in a variety of units to help building occupants clearly understand how their buildings operate. The dashboards are powered by data from the Utility Metering, Billing, Reporting, and Sustainability project, which integrates utility data to present a comprehensive view of the university environmental footprint. Individual building performance pages also highlight other sustainability features in each building and recognize Stanford’s network of green building champions.

The enhanced Sustainable Stanford portal encourages user engagement with Cardinal Green campaigns to help spur individual commitment to action and track user progress throughout the year, so that outstanding advocates of sustainability can be recognized. With these new tools, all campaigns saw a significant increase in participation.
