Spring quarter saw 15 student residences begin composting their bathroom paper towels and kitchenette scraps: Roble, Manzanita, Crothers, Crothers Memorial, Sigma Nu, Kappa Sig, Columbae, Storey, Muwekma-Tah-Ruk, Kimball, Adams, Potter, Schiff, Murray, and Robinson. After installation of collection bins, the amount of compostable materials collected increased by 66% on average across the residences. Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) Student Housing building managers and custodians have built composting collection into normal operations and are continuing to educate residents about how to sort their waste. R&DE will explore additional opportunities to expand composting into its residences in the coming year.
