The Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) project received the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) – the state’s highest environmental honor – in the category of Climate Change. Stanford was recognized for the SESI project raising the bar on efficiency to develop a global solution to address climate change, which can be and has been modeled by numerous other entities. Stanford was the only winner in its category and was among a dozen organizations recognized at a ceremony held in Sacramento.

SESI facilitated Stanford’s transition away from a 100% fossil fuel–supplied heating, cooling, and energy system to a more efficient heat recovery system powered by renewable electricity. The flexible system has significantly reduced campus greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption and will continue to yield results for years to come.

The GEELA is just one of many awards acknowledging the success of the SESI program.
