Improving ocean scientists’ communication with seafood industry workers was the topic of one of 13 insightful presentations at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment’s Annual Young Environmental Scholars Conference, which champions interdisciplinary dialogue on environmental science, policy, and behavior research among environmental researchers from all seven schools at Stanford. The conference, attended by 80 graduate students, is an opportunity for young scholars to present their research and network with peers.

The theme of the conference, “communication across disciplines,” was chosen by student organizers and reflected the interest of young researchers in pressing the boundaries of their own fields. Presentations included discussions of Mexico City’s water resources in the crisis of urban growth, preservation of biodiversity through bioenergy production, and public-private partnerships to strengthen environmental education.
