The Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment launched a pilot program, the Forum for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership (FUEL), which allows Stanford undergraduate students to investigate environmental career opportunities by connecting with policy makers and professionals in the field.

Participants in the program visited Sacramento to learn about environmental policy making and career opportunities in the legislative, agency, and nongovernmental organization sectors. Students had the opportunity to discuss water resource issues with a former deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, pollutant control ideas with the California Air Resources Board, and how to advance policy goals with major nonprofit organizations such as the Nature Conservancy.

Participants also interact with business and nonprofit professionals while on campus and are able to gather multiple perspectives on green careers.
