Former Vice President Al Gore Calls for Climate Action at Student Rally
An estimated 2,000 campus and community members showed their support for climate action by attending Stanford’s Know Tomorrow rally in White Plaza on October 2. Know Tomorrow was part of a national day of action to raise awareness around the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, which took place the following month. The two-hour event featured a keynote address by former vice president Al Gore, who encouraged students to get involved, keep pushing climate action, and not lose motivation. According to Gore, “We [climate activists] are winning this struggle; we just have to win faster.”
Student representatives from the national Know Tomorrow organization, as well as Students for a Sustainable Stanford, coordinated the effort for Stanford. Other speakers included Stanford faculty, ASSU executives, and members of the Stanford American Indian organization and Fossil Free Stanford.
